FAQs

Park and Ride SA provides professionally managed transport services to major sporting events, concerts, festivals and other large events across South Africa.

Operating times, departure points, parking arrangements and transport procedures may differ from one event to another. The information displayed on the relevant event page and included in your booking confirmation will always take precedence over these general FAQs.

Tickets and Bookings

!
"
How do I book Park & Ride?

Select your event on the Park and Ride SA website and click the Book Now button. You will be directed to the authorised ticketing platform for that event.

Tickets should be booked in advance. Capacity at individual departure points is limited, and certain points may sell out before the event.

!
"
Is a Park & Ride ticket included with my event ticket?

No. Your Park & Ride ticket and your event admission ticket are normally purchased separately.

You will need:

  • A valid admission ticket for the event
  • A valid Park & Ride ticket for every passenger travelling

A Park & Ride ticket does not provide admission to the event.

!
"
Are Park & Ride tickets sold per passenger or per vehicle?

Park & Ride tickets are sold per passenger, not per vehicle.

Every person travelling on the bus requires a valid ticket unless the specific event information clearly states otherwise.

!
"
Does my Park & Ride ticket include the return journey?

Yes. Unless otherwise stated, your ticket includes transport from your selected Park & Ride departure point to the venue and a return journey to the same departure point after the event.

!
"
Does my ticket include parking?

Parking at your selected departure point is normally included in your Park & Ride ticket.

The type and location of parking differ between departure points. Some locations offer undercover parking, while others use open or designated event parking areas.

Please check the information supplied for your selected departure point before travelling.

!
"
Can I buy a Park & Ride ticket on the day of the event?

Tickets may remain available online on the day of the event, but this cannot be guaranteed.

We strongly recommend booking in advance. Bus capacity, parking and staffing are planned according to confirmed ticket sales. Tickets may not be available for purchase at the departure point.

!
"
Can I use a ticket purchased for a different departure point?

No. Your ticket is valid only for the departure point selected during the booking process.

Passenger numbers, buses and parking capacity are allocated according to ticket sales at each location. You must report to the departure point shown on your ticket.

!
"
Can I change my departure point after booking?

Changes are subject to availability and the rules of the authorised ticketing platform used for the event.

Please contact Park and Ride SA as early as possible. Changes cannot be guaranteed once a departure point has sold out or operational planning has been finalised.

!
"
Are Park & Ride tickets refundable or transferable?

Refunds, exchanges and transfers are governed by the terms and conditions of the relevant event and authorised ticketing platform.

Tickets are generally not refundable when a passenger decides not to travel, arrives late or misses the bus.

Different arrangements may apply if an event is cancelled or postponed. Please review the ticketing terms presented when making your booking.

Please contact Park and Ride SA as early as possible. Changes cannot be guaranteed once a departure point has sold out or operational planning has been finalised.

!
"
Do I need to print my Park & Ride ticket?

A clearly displayed digital ticket is normally accepted unless the event information states otherwise.

Please download your ticket before leaving home and ensure that your phone is sufficiently charged. Mobile signal may be limited at busy shopping centres, departure points and venues.

Each ticket may be scanned only once.

!
"
What should I do if I have not received my ticket?

First check your email inbox, spam and junk folders.

You should also log in to the account used when making the booking. Depending on the ticketing platform, your ticket may be available within the platform’s website or mobile application.

If you still cannot locate your ticket, contact the authorised ticketing platform or Park and Ride SA before the event day.

Departure Points and Parking

!
"
How do I know which departure points are available?

The relevant event page and booking platform will show the departure points operating for that specific event.

Not every Park and Ride SA location operates for every event. Available points depend on factors including:

  • Customer demand
  • Venue access arrangements
  • Traffic-management requirements
  • Parking capacity
  • Operational approval
  • Bus availability

!
"
Where exactly do I park and board the bus?

Detailed parking, access and boarding instructions are normally provided before the event.

These instructions may be communicated through:

  • Email
  • SMS
  • WhatsApp
  • The Park and Ride SA website
  • The event organiser
  • The authorised ticketing platform

Please read the information carefully. Large shopping centres and precincts may have several entrances and parking areas.

Where available, use the Google Maps link provided for your selected Park & Ride station.

!
"
How early should I arrive?

Please allow enough time to:

  • Enter the parking area
  • Locate the designated Park & Ride zone
  • Find parking
  • Walk to the boarding area
  • Have your ticket scanned
  • Join the correct queue
  • Board the bus

We recommend arriving well before the final published departure time. Traffic around departure points may be heavier than usual on major event days.

!
"
Is parking secure?

Park and Ride SA uses established departure points and works with shopping centres, parking operators, venue management and security teams where applicable.

Security arrangements differ between locations. Vehicles and belongings are left at the owner’s risk, and normal safety precautions should always be followed.

Please:

  • Lock your vehicle
  • Close all windows
  • Do not leave valuables visible
  • Follow the instructions of parking and security personnel

Park only in the designated Park & Ride area

!
"
Is parking undercover?

This depends on the departure point.

Some Park & Ride stations provide undercover parking, while others use open or designated event parking areas. Please check the information provided for your selected departure point.

!
"
Can someone drop me off at the departure point?

Yes, provided that the departure point permits passenger drop-offs and collections.

Drivers must not stop in bus-loading zones, block traffic lanes or wait in restricted areas. Please follow the directions of security personnel, marshals and parking staff.

!
"
Will I return to the same departure point?

Yes. Your return bus will transport you to the departure point selected when making your booking.

Please make sure that you join the correct return queue and board the bus displaying the name of your departure point.

Bus Departures

!
"
Do buses leave at fixed times?

This differs from event to event.

Depending on the approved operating plan, buses may:

  • Depart at scheduled times
  • Operate during a published departure window
  • Leave as they fill
  • Operate at regular intervals
  • Operate continuously during peak periods

The event page and your final travel instructions will explain how departures will work for your event.

!
"
What does “buses depart as they fill” mean?

Buses are dispatched once they have enough passengers to depart efficiently and safely.

You may experience a short wait while the next bus is loaded. During busy periods, several buses may operate continuously.

!
"
What time is the final bus to the venue?

The final outward departure time is displayed on the relevant event page and in your travel information.

This is a strict operational cut-off. Passengers arriving after the final bus has departed may need to arrange and pay for their own transport to the venue.

A refund is not normally provided when a passenger arrives late or misses the published departure period.

!
"
Can the bus wait for me if I am running late?

No. Buses operate according to an approved event transport plan and cannot be delayed for individual passengers.

Please allow additional time for traffic, parking, ticket scanning and possible queues.

!
"
How long does the bus journey take?

Journey times depend on several factors, including:

  • Your selected departure point
  • General traffic conditions
  • Event traffic
  • Road closures
  • Venue access procedures
  • Police and traffic-officer instructions
  • The approved event transport route

Park & Ride buses may use dedicated, approved or managed access routes where these form part of the event transport plan.

Journey times cannot be guaranteed.

!
"
Will the bus take me directly to the venue?

Park & Ride buses travel to the designated official bus drop-off area for the event.

The drop-off area may not be situated directly outside the venue entrance. Passengers may need to walk from the transport area to the appropriate entrance or security checkpoint.

!
"
Are seats reserved?

No. Seating is generally available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Your ticket reserves transport capacity from your selected Park & Ride station. It does not reserve a particular bus, departure time or seat unless specifically stated for the event.

!
"
Can I leave my belongings on the bus?

No. Please take all personal belongings with you when leaving the bus.

The same bus may not be used for your return journey. Park and Ride SA cannot guarantee the recovery of items left behind.

!
"
Can passengers give directions to the bus driver?

No. Passengers must refrain from giving directions, suggesting alternative routes or asking drivers to change the planned route.

Park & Ride buses often use dedicated, approved or less obvious routes to avoid congestion, road closures and general event traffic. These routes may form part of an official transport plan coordinated with traffic authorities, venue management and event organisers.

The route may appear longer or different from the route suggested by a navigation application, but it has been selected to manage traffic and venue access as safely and efficiently as possible.

Drivers are required to follow the approved route and instructions from the Park and Ride SA operations team, traffic officers and event officials.

Passengers should not distract the driver while the bus is moving.

!
"
Can the driver make an unscheduled stop?

No. Drivers are not permitted to make unscheduled stops or allow passengers to board or leave the bus at alternative locations.

All passengers must board and disembark at the official Park & Ride stations and venue transport areas.

Return Transport

!
"
When do the return buses begin operating?

Return arrangements differ depending on the event.

For many events, return buses begin departing once the event has ended or when sufficient passengers arrive at the official collection area.

Some events may provide earlier return services. The event information will confirm the applicable arrangements and the final return time.

!
"
Where do I find the buses after the event?

Return buses depart from the designated official Park & Ride collection area.

Please follow:

  • Park & Ride signage
  • Venue announcements
  • Instructions from marshals
  • Instructions from event staff
  • The travel information provided before the event

The return collection area may differ from the original arrival drop-off area.

!
"
Do I have to leave immediately after the event?

You do not necessarily have to board the first available return bus, but you must reach the Park & Ride collection area before the final published return time.

Please allow sufficient time to walk through the venue precinct and find the correct queue. Large crowds can make this journey slower than expected.

!
"
What happens if I miss the final return bus?

The final return time is a strict cut-off.

Passengers who miss the final bus will be responsible for arranging and paying for their own alternative transport.

Park and Ride SA cannot keep buses at the venue indefinitely after the published operating period.

!
"
How are the return queues managed?

Passengers are directed into separate queues according to their original Park & Ride departure point.

Marshals coordinate the boarding and dispatch of buses as capacity becomes available.

Please keep your ticket or booking information accessible so that your departure point can be confirmed if required.

!
"
Will there be queues after the event?

A temporary queue may form when thousands of passengers leave the venue at the same time.

Buses are dispatched continuously according to:

  • Vehicle availability
  • Passenger demand
  • Venue access conditions
  • Traffic-management instructions
  • The approved event operating plan

Please remain in the correct queue and follow the instructions of Park and Ride SA staff and marshals.

!
"
Can I get off the bus before it reaches my Park & Ride station?

No. Passengers must remain on the bus until it reaches the official Park & Ride station shown on their ticket.

For safety and operational reasons, drivers are not permitted to make unscheduled stops or allow passengers to disembark at alternative locations.

Passengers sometimes choose to leave the bus before it reaches the official station and later struggle to find the return bus, their vehicle or the correct parking area.

To avoid confusion and ensure that you are returned safely to the correct location, please remain on board until the bus has arrived at your designated Park & Ride station.

Park and Ride SA cannot accept responsibility for passengers who choose to leave the service before reaching the official destination.

Children and Families

!
"
Do children require Park & Ride tickets?

Yes. Every passenger requires a valid Park & Ride ticket unless the event page specifically states that children below a certain age may travel free.

Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.

!
"
Can I bring a baby or young child?

Yes, subject to the applicable event and vehicle arrangements.

Parents and guardians remain responsible for supervising their children and deciding whether the transport arrangement is suitable for them.

!
"
Can I bring a pram?

Foldable prams may normally be accepted, subject to available space.

Prams must be folded before boarding and may not obstruct:

  • Bus aisles
  • Entrances
  • Emergency exits
  • Passenger seating

Storage space cannot be guaranteed.

!
"
Can I use a child car seat on the bus?

Standard event buses are not normally fitted for passenger-supplied child seats.

Parents and guardians remain responsible for deciding whether the available transport arrangement is appropriate for their child.

Please contact Park and Ride SA before booking if you have specific requirements.

Accessibility and Special Assistance

!
"
Are the buses wheelchair accessible?

Not every vehicle or departure point is wheelchair accessible.

Passengers requiring wheelchair access, mobility assistance or other special arrangements must contact Park and Ride SA before booking.

This allows us to confirm whether suitable transport, parking and venue-access arrangements are available for the particular event.

We will make reasonable efforts to assist, but accessible transport cannot be guaranteed without prior confirmation.

!
"
Can elderly passengers or passengers with limited mobility use the service?

Yes, but passengers should be aware that walking may be required between:

  • The parking area and bus-loading point
  • The bus drop-off area and venue entrance
  • The venue exit and return collection area
  • The bus and the parking area after returning

Distances, surfaces and terrain differ between venues and departure points.

Please contact Park and Ride SA in advance if someone in your group requires special assistance.

Bags, Food and Prohibited Items

!
"
Can I take bags onto the bus?

Small personal bags are generally permitted, provided that they can be safely stored and do not block:

  • Seats
  • Aisles
  • Entrances
  • Emergency exits

Large bags, equipment and bulky items may be refused.

The venue’s bag policy will also apply and may be stricter than the Park & Ride bus policy. Please check the event organiser’s prohibited-items list before travelling.

!
"
Can I bring food or drinks onto the bus?

Small, sealed refreshments may be permitted, but rules may differ according to the event and vehicle.

Passengers must keep buses clean and remove all waste when disembarking.

Glass containers and any items prohibited by the venue may not be transported.

!
"
Can I take alcohol onto the bus?

The consumption of alcohol on Park & Ride buses is not permitted unless it has been expressly authorised for a particular event.

Passengers may not bring open alcohol containers onto the bus.

Any alcohol being transported must also comply with the rules of the departure point, venue and event organiser.

!
"
Is smoking or vaping permitted?

No. Smoking and vaping are not permitted on Park & Ride buses.

!
"
Can I bring sporting equipment, camping equipment or other large items?

Large or unusual items will only be accepted by prior arrangement.

Bus storage space is limited. Items that could obstruct passengers, damage the vehicle or create a safety risk may be refused.

!
"
Are pets permitted?

Only registered service animals may be accommodated, subject to prior arrangement and the rules of the venue, bus operator and departure point.

Other pets are not permitted on the buses.

Passenger Conduct and Safety

!
"
What behaviour is expected on the bus?

Passengers must:

  • Follow the instructions of drivers, marshals, security personnel and Park and Ride SA staff
  • Remain seated where required
  • Keep aisles, entrances and emergency exits clear
  • Treat fellow passengers and staff respectfully
  • Avoid distracting the driver
  • Refrain from giving directions to the driver
  • Remain on board until the official Park & Ride station has been reached
  • Refrain from smoking or vaping
  • Avoid behaviour that could endanger passengers, staff or the vehicle

Park and Ride SA reserves the right to refuse transport to any passenger who is intoxicated, aggressive, abusive, disruptive or presents a safety risk.

!
"
Why must passengers remain on the bus until the official station?

The bus may travel through several areas before reaching the designated Park & Ride station.

Leaving the bus early can result in passengers becoming separated from their group, being unable to locate their vehicle or not knowing where to find the bus service later.

Passengers must therefore remain on board until the driver or marshal confirms that the official Park & Ride station has been reached.

!
"
Why should passengers not give the driver directions?

The most obvious or familiar route is not always the route approved for event transport.

Park & Ride buses may use dedicated access routes, traffic-controlled roads or alternative routes designed to avoid congestion and road closures.

The driver must follow instructions from the Park and Ride SA operations team, traffic authorities, police and event officials.

Passenger directions can distract the driver and interfere with the approved transport plan.

!
"
What happens if a passenger damages a bus?

Passengers may be held responsible for deliberate damage, excessive cleaning costs or losses caused by their conduct.

Serious incidents may be reported to venue security or the South African Police Service.

Event Changes and Communication

!
"
Why do departure points and operating times differ between events?

Every event requires its own transport plan.

Arrangements are influenced by:

  • Venue access
  • Expected attendance
  • Traffic restrictions
  • Road closures
  • Security requirements
  • Parking availability
  • Ticket demand
  • Bus availability
  • Approval from event organisers and traffic authorities

Always rely on the information published for your specific event.

!
"
What happens if an event is postponed or cancelled?

Transport arrangements will be reviewed together with the event organiser and authorised ticketing platform.

Customers will be informed of confirmed changes through the available communication channels.

Refunds, ticket transfers or new transport arrangements will be handled according to the terms and conditions of the applicable event and ticketing platform.

!
"

  • WhatsApp

  • The official event website or application
  • The authorised ticketing platform
  • Official social-media channels

Please provide accurate contact information when booking and check your spam or junk folders before the event.

!
"
When will I receive my parking map and final instructions?

Final instructions are normally distributed once operational arrangements for the event have been confirmed.

Please check your email, WhatsApp messages and the relevant event page in the days leading up to the event.

Do not rely only on information from previous events, as parking areas, operating times and bus arrangements may change.

!
"
What should I do if the information on my ticket differs from a previous event?

Follow the information provided for your current event.

Departure points, routes, loading areas and operating times may change from one event to another, even when the service is operating to the same venue.

!
